recently...
...I'm very thankful that we've had a run of lovely, cool mornings - makes the hot, hot days bearable
...still loving the early morning light - posted week 1 of my morning project & some photos from our most recent forest visit
...I cleaned up my clay cupboard, did some weeding, tidied my desk
...been working on a batch of fine silver pieces - rolling, texturing, cutting, shaping, sanding...
...finished my painting project (photos next month some time)
...we're working on a blog for the shop (to launch next month) & I've been photographing, drafting, testing recipes...
...speaking of recipes - I baked plum crumble cake last week (recipe), so good! & really easy to make - actually, I doubled the mix (one batch of crumble is plenty) & baked two cakes. There are lots of us ;)
...enjoyed our most recent book club book (The Language of Flowers, by Vanessa Diffenbaugh), read lots of blog posts & helped Kathryn with her portrait for the month...

Just thought I'd share a selection of blog posts I've read/looked at/drooled over recently. Plus a few photos - out-takes from my mornings project...
I love Cindy's photography - these portraits are a gorgeous example. Speaking of portraits, how lovely is this engagement shoot on Kinsey's blog.
A Beautiful Mess is always an inspiring place to visit - recently I'm loving these scarves & this cute shoe make-over. Also inspiring - a feature on some gorgeous ceramics, some colourful artwork & gorgeous jewellery.
I've been loving Joy's honey mustard dressing on pretty much any sort of salad - it even keeps well in the fridge if you make a big batch. Totally tempted by apple walnut cakes & espresso chocolate kisses (chocolate, coffee & shortbread! no other explanation needed).
Some interesting thoughts on not getting too caught up in the 'rules' of art.
Just because they're beautiful & cute cats need no reasons at all :)

recently...
...started a photo project (also, here & here) & took a new teleidoscope photo
...I've been making textures, playing with paper & framing pictures
...trying some different things for making necklaces (although I might need to buy some supplies...how sad :P )
...started a largish painting project on the front wall of the shop (photos later)
...finally created my etsy 'About' page
...baked chicken & leek pasties with Mum (I could eat that leek filling all on its own) & enjoyed the baking efforts of my sisters
...& started a new batch of clay

playing with paper...
I spent a lovely afternoon the other day, playing with pretty papers & making some gift tags. I use these to write a little thank you note to send with my jewellery. They are also good if I need a tag for a gift, lol.
I started by cutting some plain card to size (these are about 8cm x 5.5cm). We have a generous stash of scrap-booking supplies, so I raided that for some nice colours.
Once I had my base, I got out the fancy papers (most of the ones I used are washi paper) & started putting them together. I picked colour combinations I liked & stuck to quite simple designs - either following the lines of the fancy paper, or cutting geometric shapes. A little scrap-booking glue & voilà a nice stack of gift tags.

a photo project in four parts...
Earlier this year when I was brainstorming ideas for this blog & other projects, the phrase 'month of mornings' popped into my head. Originally I was just going to take a photo every morning for a month, but then I started thinking about seasons & which month I would pick....
Eventually I decided that I would take a months worth of photos, but in four parts - one week each season. So this week I am taking a photo every summer morning, in a couple of months I will take a week of autumn morning photos & so on...
...naturally I also have a few extra photos from each day (& it's only day 2, lol)...
(I will post week 1 early next week)
