sketchy...

I recently picked up my pencil & sketchbook again (for the first time in ages) & was reminded how much I enjoy just going out & drawing. Kind of like with zen-tangling, sometimes it's nice to do something that is creative simply for it's own sake (although sketching requires a bit more concentration).

So far, I've drawn a few inanimate objects & dodged the rain for some nature-y subjects...

behind the scenes...

I always enjoy seeing how people do things/set things up, so I thought I'd share a few photos of my current spot for taking jewellery photos. Plus I actually thought of taking some while I had it all set up ;)

We have a big back veranda/carport area, with plastic blinds in some of the openings. They let in a nice diffused light & there is a conveniently located couch & small table. This is really only the second lot of photos I've taken in this spot, so I'll have to see how it goes in different light (this day was very overcast). I think I've found my winter photo spot though.

you can kind of see the couch & table better here

playing with paper...

I spent a lovely afternoon the other day, playing with pretty papers & making some gift tags. I use these to write a little thank you note to send with my jewellery. They are also good if I need a tag for a gift, lol.

I started by cutting some plain card to size (these are about 8cm x 5.5cm). We have a generous stash of scrap-booking supplies, so I raided that for some nice colours.

Once I had my base, I got out the fancy papers (most of the ones I used are washi paper) & started putting them together. I picked colour combinations I liked & stuck to quite simple designs - either following the lines of the fancy paper, or cutting geometric shapes. A little scrap-booking glue & voilà a nice stack of gift tags.
