writers' week 2014

Another year, another Adelaide Writers' Week - held as always in beautiful parkland in the city - a celebration of books & reading & writing. Attending has become something of a tradition for us, one I hope continues. We had a lovely time listening to all the authors speaking about their work - Alexander McCall Smith was a real highlight, just as lovely as his books - but I enjoyed every session we listened to.

One of the many lovely things about Adelaide's literary festival is the fact that being free to attend means you can arrive early, or decide to hang around a little longer & catch authors or talks you might not have picked, but which often turn out to be some of the best.

I know my post is a bit photo heavy for something that's about a book event, but I kind of like letting my pictures do the talking. If you would like a more, well, writer-y perspective, head on over to Kathryn's blog.

writers' week 2013

I was very happy to be able to attend some of Adelaide Writers' Week again this year. Held outdoors in some of Adelaide's beautiful park-lands, it's free! to attend & lots of fun. Although I have to say this year's weather wasn't quite as wonderful as last year.

Anyway, we managed to attend talks on two different days & listened to some authors we already loved, as well as discovering some new (to us) ones. Kathryn & I also waited in two really long lines to get books signed.

Isobelle Carmody & Kerry Greenwood have been favourites of mine for a long time & they were very worth listening to (Kerry's talk was hilarious). I also really enjoyed hearing Justine Larbalestier & Vikki Wakefield (on a panel with Isobelle), Karen Lord (although I missed part of her talk due to one of the aforementioned lines), Scott Westerfeld & Toni Jordan. It was also nice to see Sean Willams again (talking with Scott Westerfeld), as his talk with Garth Nix was one of my favourites last year.

& Kathryn's posts 1 | 2 (I also must thank her for having found the links for all the authors already, so I could just copy them :)  )

writers' week 2012

In early March, we attended Adelaide Writers' Week (part of the Adelaide Festival), held in the Pioneer Women's Memorial Gardens. The weather was beautiful, pretty much all the talks we listened to were really interesting & we came home with a pile of new books.

We also shot a roll of film while we were there - a post on that coming soon.

You can also see Kathryn's posts on her blog - she has written/will be writing more about what we saw, I'm mostly sticking to pictures :)
