on your bike { melbourne }

I mostly used my own two feet, but I saw plenty of two-wheeled transportation...

*I know the last shot is of a sewing machine...but there is a bike too :)

we went for a little drive today & I took my portrait (with Amy's help) by the side of the road. It was very windy & cold.

day 6, in disguise...

the hat is borrowed from my dad - he's had a version of this hat for as long as I can remember - & the beard is borrowed from my younger brother - the girls made it for his last birthday. Actually I quite resemble him in some of the shots I took today XD

day 4, a little bit magic...& a lot windy...

Taking self portraits can be kind of difficult, especially since we can't use our remote with the 50d. Add a wide brimmed hat which doesn't fit & lots of wind & doing it on your own becomes almost impossible.
Luckily I had Kathryn to help me today - she played my 'remote' & pressed the button for me.

I think the hat spent almost as much time off my head as on, in the shot below I only just caught it before it blew away completely.

& bonus shot of me looking really silly

day 3, from before...

3/7

Mum brought this hat back from the Tatry region of Poland many, many years ago (the hat is older than I am).
& I don't know if you can tell, but it's way too small.

day 2, *bespoke*, buttons...

I subscribe to a gorgeous little magazine called *bespoke*. Each issue is full of articles about art, craft, vintage, creativity, inspiration...all the good stuff really. (& the cover art is awesome)

I was also lucky enough to win one of the subscriber's gifts & received this sweet headband from Sarsparilly.

ducking & weaving...

We've spent the last few days in Adelaide - catching up with family, visiting the museum, shopping & (the main reason for the trip) running the 3km in the City-to-Bay.

After all the training it was nice to complete the run & I'm pretty sure we'll be attempting the 6km, or maybe even the full 12km, next year. I knew that there would be a lot of people, but I wasn't prepared for quite so many - the crowd was huuuuuuge (almost 31,000 apparently).

Before heading home on monday, we visited the Wittunga Botanic Garden. Haven't finished going through all the photos yet, we took a fair few. The ducks there are quite used to people (I suspect they get fed fairly often) & came quite close, perhaps hoping that our cameras would magically turn into bread.

day 6 - { whimsy }

Today is my sister Kathryn's 18th Birthday.
Kathryn is funny, warm, generous, organised, crazy, talented, determined, amazing....she never ceases to amaze me. I fully believe that she will reach her goals & sometime in the not-to-distant-future you will be buying a copy of her first novel.
I'm very lucky to have her as a sister & a friend.
So Happy Birthday gorgeous, I love you :)

cuteness & sunlight

I found this photo of Archie whilst looking for something else & thought I would share it, 'cos he's just so cute :)

Archie is our quite-smart-yet-incredibly-silly moodle (maltese/poodle). He's a sweet, cuddly ratbag & he even has his own blog.

{ luminarium }

A couple of weeks ago, we (Dad, Mum, Kathryn, Amy & I) headed to Adelaide for Writer's Week, which is part of the Adelaide Festival - & on at the same time was the Adelaide Fringe. One of the attractions at the Fringe was Amococo, a luminarium.

A luminarium is a sculpture people enter to be moved to a sense of wonder at the beauty of light and colour. It is an inflatable walk-in sculpture on a monumental scale, typically measuring from 800 to 1000m2. They are easy to erect and can be configured to adapt to different sites.

The experience was quite awesome - we were in there for about an hour & probably could have stayed all day. Once you've bought your ticket, you remove your shoes & are let into the first chamber - sort of like an airlock - where you are given a brief history Amococo (it was constructed totally by hand). Once you enter the main part of the structure, you are free to wander along the tunnels, stopping in 'pocket' alcoves or in central chambers where the ceiling is higher.

Some of the alcoves have air vents, either letting in fresh air, or blowing cool air. Writer's Week was great & we went to a few other exhibitions that were interesting, but I think Amococo was my favourite - I wish I could visit it again.

All photos by me.

early morning light....

we've started training to run in the city-to-bay fun run (in mid September). We're getting up at 6am, so we can be ready to leave the house by 6.30. Training is five days per week & our regime is set by my younger brother - based on a training program suggested on the city-to-bay website.
Getting out of bed that early can be a challenge - especially as it's still dark. The actual training is kinda fun, but hard & tiring.
One extra benefit of all of this is getting to be out in the early morning light - it's just gorgeous & a few times I've grabbed the camera once we've gotten home & gone chasing the sunlight :)
